Attorney Michael Smith and the Business Law Division are only one-half of the firm.  The other half is Susan Rayl and her Criminal Defense Division.  Mike and Susan first met in law school.

While Susan was a law student, she clerked for Indianapolis criminal defense attorney Richard Kammen at McClure, McClure, and Kammen.  After graduation, she stayed at the firm for another six years as an associate attorney.  She then conducted her own practice, doing criminal defense appeals.

After graduating from law school, Mike became an in-house lawyer for Eli Lilly and Company.  He had a variety of assignments in the company’s law division until he elected to take early retirement in 2008.  He then opened Michael Smith Law Office, LLC in Fishers, Indiana, a vibrant, fast-growing residential and business community northeast of Indianapolis.

In 2009, Susan joined Mike’s firm, and they changed the name to Smith Rayl Law Office, LLC.
