Our charge for an initial consultation of about an hour is a flat rate of $125.00. You have no further obligation unless we believe we can help you and you decide to hire us.
Billing by the hour is the traditional practice for legal services such as ours. We can keep our hourly rates very reasonable because we are a small firm with low overhead. Our current hourly rate of $245 per hour is significantly lower than that often charged by large firms in Indiana for comparable services. Discounted rates may be available for nonprofit organizations. Although our clients are responsible for out-of-pocket expenses, such as filing fees, we don’t charge for routine internal office expenses, such as making copies. Upon request, we will provide an estimate of the total fees that will be charged for a particular representation or set of services.
Many clients ask about fixed fees, and we believe that is often an economical alternative for projects that include a predictable amount of work to complete. In each case, the exact amount of the fee will be stated in a written agreement, along with a description of the specific services. Although the availability and amount of a fixed fee always depends on the particular situation, the types of services that are most commonly performed on a fixed fee basis include:
- Organization of closely held corporations
- Single-member LLCs
- Multi-member LLCs
- Review of some types of contracts
- Preparation of certain regulatory filings, such as annual business entity reports
Sometimes, even though the amount of work required by a specific project is not predictable enough to enable us to quote a fixed fee, we can promise that the total amount of hourly fees will not exceed a specified price. We believe this arrangement sometimes offers clients the best of both worlds: The client can save money if the project is completed quickly but yet has certainty that the total fee will not exceed the agreed limit. As with fixed fees, the availability and the amount of a not-to-exceed price always depends on the particular situation, and the amount of the not-to-exceed price will be stated in a written fee agreement, along with a description of the particular services.
For a regular monthly fee, our office can provide regular, ongoing services to your business. Once again, the availability and amount of a monthly fee always depends on the particular situation, and the amount of the monthly fee will be stated in a written fee agreement, along with a description of the particular services.
